CivilCraft — civil and site design

Start with survey points

  1. Open a point file, LandXML or a CivilCraft project — or drop one here. It opens on this computer; nothing is uploaded.
  2. The surface builds from the points. In Points, mark flowlines, tops of bank or ridges as breaklines.
  3. Alignment: click PIs, Enter to finish. Profile: click in the profile view to add PVIs.
  4. Pad: click its corners, Enter, then set its elevation and slopes for daylight lines and cut and fill.

Wheel to zoom, drag to pan. No file at hand?

Import points

File

Export the plan to DWG

The same linework as the DXF export, in the DWG format of that year. Pick an older format when the drawing goes to older CAD software.

Plot the plan to PDF

CivilCraft settings

These settings are only for CivilCraft, and you can change them only here, in the app.

Point rows

Point, northing, easting, elevation, description — or easting before northing. Used for points you copy (the rows a spreadsheet gets), point rows you paste, and the import's guess when a file has no header row.

Numbers for pasted points

Keep free numbers: a pasted point keeps its number when no point has it, and only clashing points are renumbered. Two points never share a number. Leave the start empty to count on from the highest number in use; with a start, new numbers count up from it, skipping any already taken.

Point labels

What a point label shows when Point labels is on under Display. DXF, DWG and PDF exports show the same.

Corner indicator

The view cube sits at the top right of the plan and the 3D view. On the plan it shows the top; click any other side, edge or corner, or drag it, to see the site in 3D from there. In 3D, click to look from a side, drag it to orbit, drag the compass ring to turn. The axis icon is a small X, Y (and Z in 3D) marker at the bottom left.

3D vertical exaggeration

How much the 3D view stretches elevations. The list on the 3D view's bar is the same setting. Volumes, profiles and 3D exports stay at true scale.

Latitude and longitude

How the status bar shows the pointer’s latitude and longitude: degrees, minutes and seconds, or decimal degrees. It shows them only when the project has a coordinate system (GIS › Coordinates).

Map layers from the internet

When on, CivilCraft asks the map servers you add for pictures of the area on screen. Your drawing stays on this computer; the server sees the area and your internet address. Off, no map server is asked for anything; a georeferenced image file works either way.

Theme

The theme applies to every CadCraft app and the site.

Screen

Browsers allow full screen only after a click or key press, so it starts on your first click in the drawing.

Toolbar

Arrange: drag tools within their group, and drag a group by its name.

Panels

You can also drag a panel's inner edge. Double-click the edge to put it back.

Panels

Drag a panel by its name to dock it left, right or at the bottom, or drop it over the drawing to float it. A new window can go on your other screen. Reset layout puts every panel back where it started.
