What you will learn
How to choose what each of your input devices does in the app. The settings are in Settings › Global › Input devices, one card per device. Until you change something, every device works as it did before.
Every app, or only this app
At the top, These settings are for:
- Every app (the start): what you set applies in every app that has no settings of its own.
- Only this app: the app takes a copy of the shared settings and keeps its own from then on. Change them here without touching the other apps.
Choose Every app again to drop this app's own settings and go back to the shared ones. The settings are kept on this device, in every app window and in the desktop app's apps.
Trackpad
- Two-finger scroll: What the app does, Pan the view, Zoom or Orbit (3D views).
- Pinch: zoom, as the app does, or Nothing.
- Speed and Reverse the direction apply when you have chosen pan, zoom or orbit.
The app tells a trackpad from a mouse wheel by the way it scrolls, so a mouse wheel keeps doing what it does.
Mouse buttons
- Back side button and Forward side button: run any command, such as Undo and Redo, or Fit everything in view. A side button set to a command no longer takes the browser back a page.
- Wheel tilted sideways: what the app does, pan the view, or nothing.
The wheel's zoom direction and which buttons pan or orbit are in the app's own tab, under Menus, keys and mouse.
Pen and finger taps
- Side button and Eraser end: what the app does, or any command.
- Two-finger tap and Three-finger tap (they start as Undo and Redo): any command, or Nothing.
Palm rejection and what your fingers do once you use a pen stay under Pen and touch.
3D mouse
Choose Connect a 3D mouse and pick it in the browser's list; the browser remembers it for this site. Then push, lift, tilt and twist the cap to move the view under the pointer:
- Each movement (Push left and right, Push forward and back, Lift and press, Tilt forward and back, Tilt left and right, Twist) can pan, zoom, orbit or do nothing, and Reverse turns it round.
- Speed, Dead zone (how far the cap moves before anything happens) and Only the strongest movement at a time.
- Each button runs a command or fits the view.
A 3D mouse needs Chrome or Edge in the browser.
Game controller
Plug in a controller and press any button so the browser shows it to the app. The sticks pan, orbit or zoom; the triggers zoom in and out; every button can run a command. Speed, Dead zone and Reverse up and down on the sticks are there too.
MIDI controller
Choose Connect MIDI. Then, for each control: pick what it should do under Add a control for (a knob or fader pans, zooms or orbits; a pad or key runs a command), choose Learn it, and turn the knob or press the pad. Each learned control is listed, with a button to remove it. MIDI needs Chrome or Edge in the browser.
Share your settings
Export saves the settings shown as a file; Import reads one back (settings this version doesn't know are left out, and you're told how many). Back to the defaults undoes every change for the settings shown.
Not built yet
A wheel dial (such as the ones on Windows) and the desktop app's own drivers for 3D mice are not supported yet. A 3D mouse, controller or knob moves the view only in apps that have handed their views over; their buttons work everywhere.
