What you will learn
How the app works with a pen on a tablet or a touch-screen laptop, and the settings that change it. They are in Settings › General › Pen and touch, which shows on a touch screen, or once you have used a pen.
A pen is noticed the first time
Nothing changes until you touch the drawing with a pen. From then on the app remembers, on this device, that you draw with one, and the choices below start to apply. Before that, your fingers draw and select as usual.
Your palm is ignored
With Ignore my palm while I use a pen on (it starts on), a touch on the drawing is ignored while the pen touches the screen, for a moment after you lift it or while it hovers just above the screen, and whenever the contact is as big as a palm. Rest your hand on the screen and draw.
If a quick finger right after the pen does nothing, wait a moment: that moment is the palm rule at work.
Let the pen draw and your fingers move the view
Under Fingers on the drawing, once you use a pen here:
- Draw and select (the start): a finger does what the pen does.
- Only move the view: one finger on the drawing does nothing, so a stray touch never draws or picks. Two fingers still move and zoom the view as usual.
The toolbars, panels and dialogs work with your fingers either way.
Undo with a tap
With Tap with two fingers to undo, three to redo on (it starts on), tap the drawing with two fingers together to undo your last step, and with three to redo it. It works with or without a pen. Moving the fingers is a pan or a zoom, never a tap.
The pen's buttons
- Pen side button: What the app does (a right click) at the start, or Undo or Redo.
- Pen eraser end (on pens that have one): What the app does at the start, or Undo or Redo. In ModelCraft, what the app does is to erase while the eraser end touches.
These are the device's settings
The pen and touch choices are kept for this device and apply in every app on it, so you set them once. Reset the layout and resetting an app's settings leave them as they are.
Not built yet
Pen pressure and tilt don't change line weights yet, and no app has a handwriting or sketch-to-shape tool. The app reads the pen's pressure, tilt and hover, so these can come later per app.
