Refrigeration copper tube sizes

Gives the outside diameter, wall and inside diameter of a refrigerant line from its trade size.

How the precision is kept

Outside diameter and wall are tabled in inches for annealed coil and drawn tube; the file's header names ASTM B280 as tabled in the Copper Tube Handbook. The inside diameter is one subtraction and the millimeter values use the exact factor 25.4.

Tube dimensions for a size

64-bit

The outside, wall and inside dimensions of one tube, in inches and millimeters.

id = od − 2 × wall; odMm = round(od × 25.4 × 1000) ÷ 1000; wallMm = wall × 25.4

25.4 is exact. Every tabled outside diameter is a multiple of 1/8 in, which is 3.175 mm, so rounding odMm to three decimals removes only binary noise and no real digits. The wall in millimeters is not rounded. The inside diameter subtracts two numbers of similar size once.

In detail

Method
Table lookup by size name and class, then id = od − 2 × wall and mm = in × 25.4.
Number types
64-bit numbers.
Limits
The label printed for a size (for example Ø9.52) is the trade's two-decimal mark, not the computed diameter; the stored odMm for that size is 9.525.

Approach: 64-bit, direct

Every value is a 64-bit number from input to result. Formulas are closed form or a direct solve, and every comparison uses a stated tolerance.
