Why schools choose CadCraft

  • Free for every student, on every computer

All eight apps are free and open source, with every feature. No lab licenses to buy, no seat count to manage and nothing to renew each term. Students can install the same apps at home.

  • Nothing to install to start

Every app runs in a current desktop browser at getcadcraft.com/use. For lab computers, or for working offline, the eight apps install together as CadCraft Studio.

  • Open formats students will meet at work

DWG and DXF drawings, IFC building models, STEP parts, PDF sheets, LandXML surfaces. What a student makes opens in the tools used in industry, and drawings from industry open here.

  • One family for the whole program

Drafting, BIM, 3D modeling, review, estimating, civil, detailing and mechanical parts, with one way of working across them. Students learn one interface, not eight.

  • Students keep their work

Files are saved on the student's own computer, in open formats. Nothing is locked to a school account, and nothing stops working when the semester ends.

  • Room to go further

The apps can be driven by scripts and by AI agents, and the code is open. Advanced students can automate a task, write an add-on or read how a tool works.

Eight apps, one for each course

Each app is named for the work it does. Use one for a single course, or several across a program: they share one way of working, so what students learn in one carries into the next.

  • CadCraft 2D drafting & 3D modeling

Command-line drafting with layers, blocks, dimensions and layouts that plot, plus a 3D tab for solids. Opens and saves DWG and DXF.

In class: Technical drawing, drafting fundamentals, CAD 1 and 2, 3D basics

  • BimCraft BIM review & editing

Open, check and edit IFC building models, with 3D, sections, schedules and clash checks.

In class: Architecture studio, BIM, building systems, construction management

  • ModelCraft 3D modeling for design

Fast push/pull modeling with groups, components, guides and inference snapping, for massing and early design.

In class: Design studio, massing, interior and set design, 3D printing prep

  • MarkupCraft Drawing review & markup

Open a PDF plan set, mark it up from a saved tool chest, compare revisions and run punch lists with the whole team.

In class: Design reviews, construction documents, project management

  • TakeoffCraft Quantity takeoff & estimating

Calibrated linear, area and count takeoff from PDF plans and DWG or DXF drawings, with assemblies, cost columns and quantities that export.

In class: Estimating, quantity surveying, construction management

  • CivilCraft Civil & site design

Surfaces from points and breaklines, alignments, profiles, corridors, grading and pipe networks. LandXML in and out.

In class: Civil engineering, surveying, site design, landscape

  • DetailCraft Steel & rebar detailing

Structural steel members and connections, rebar placement and bending schedules, shop drawings and NC files from one model.

In class: Structural steel, concrete and rebar detailing

  • PartCraft Parametric parts & assemblies

Constrained sketches, feature history, assemblies with joints and drawings with GD&T. STEP in and out.

In class: Mechanical design, engineering graphics, product design, manufacturing

Live TeamWork

Teach on one live drawing

With Live TeamWork the teacher and the class work on the same drawing at the same time. Everyone sees every edit as it happens.

  • Everyone on one drawing

Share the drawing you have open and the class joins in, in any of the eight apps. Every edit shows up for everyone as it happens, with each person's cursor and selection.

  • Demonstrate, then hand over

Draw the first wall while the class watches, then let a student take the next one. What someone is editing is held for them, so two people never fight over one object.

  • Mistakes stay small

Undo undoes only your own work, so a student's slip never takes back the teacher's demonstration. You approve each person who joins.

  • Nothing to install for students

Students join from their own CadCraft Studio, or from a browser on the school network with nothing to install. The teacher hosts from CadCraft Studio on the desktop.

In the classroom or lab: read out a short code, and students on the school network join. Free for everyone, and nothing passes through our servers.

From home or a remote class: send an invite link, like a meeting link. Only the host needs a Team Cloud Plan seat; students join free, with or without an account, and our relay passes only encrypted data it cannot read.

The teacher's file is the only real copy, and the session record stays on the teacher's computer. More about CadCraft Studio.

SuperCad Studio, free for students

SuperCad Studio is the power of eight apps, working as one. It sells for $250 a seat; students get it free for as long as they are in school.

  • Teach the whole job, not one program

SuperCad Studio hosts the eight apps as panels in one window. A class can go from the site to the building, the model, the quantities and the sheets without closing one program and opening another.

  • One project, linked

One project file holds the drawing, the model, the markups, the quantities and the parts, with the links between them. Change a wall once; the quantity rows follow.

  • Workspaces named for the work

Layout, Build, Model, Report and price, Finalize and export. Students see the stages a real project moves through.

  • Find any tool in a second

One search (Ctrl+K) reaches every tool in all eight apps and says why a tool cannot run right now.

  • Hand in a complete set

One export set writes the PDF, DWG, DXF, IFC, BCF, XLSX and STEP files as a single zip, ready to turn in.

  • After school, it stays theirs

The installed program keeps working after graduation. New versions come with a graduate license for $75, a price locked in the day the student joins.

Runs on Windows, macOS, Linux, and online in a current browser.

Setting up a class

  1. 1

    Try your first lesson yourself

The apps are early builds (version 0.8). Before the first class, run through the lesson in the app you plan to use, on the kind of computer your students will have. If something you need is missing or does not work, tell us at getcadcraft.com/support.

  2. 2

Choose the browser or the install

The browser is the fastest start: send students to getcadcraft.com/use and they pick an app. Nothing to install, nothing for IT to approve. For lab computers, or for working offline, install CadCraft Studio from getcadcraft.com/download. Read the notes on the download page first; your IT team may want them.

  3. 3

Decide how work is saved and turned in

Students save to their own computer, a USB drive or the school's shared drive, as ordinary files. Ask for the drawing file (DWG, IFC, STEP and so on) or a PDF of the sheets. On shared lab computers, remind students to copy their files before they log out.

  4. 4

    Get your students SuperCad Studio

SuperCad Studio is free for students. Each student applies at getcadcraft.com/education with their school email; with an address ending in .edu, the license is issued the moment they click the link we send. You can apply too: choose "I teach".

  5. 5

    Know where to get help

Step-by-step tutorials for every app are at getcadcraft.com/tutorials. Questions about the Student Program or your class go to getcadcraft.com/support.

What students do

  1. Step 1

    Open an app

Go to getcadcraft.com/use and pick the app your class uses. It runs in your browser: no download, no account.

  2. Step 2

Or install it on your own computer

Download CadCraft Studio, all eight apps in one install, from getcadcraft.com/download. It works offline.

  3. Step 3

    Save your work as files

Save to your computer or a USB drive. Your drawings are ordinary files in open formats, and they are yours.

  4. Step 4

    Get SuperCad Studio free

Apply at getcadcraft.com/education with your school email. A .edu address gets the license the moment you click the link we send.

Hand this out as the student handout; the steps above are in the teacher setup guide.

An announcement for your class

Paste it into your course page, your learning system or an email to the class, and change anything you like.

Logos and a paragraph to quote

CadCraft™ is a family of eight open-source CAD and BIM apps, each named for the work it does: CadCraft for 2D drafting and 3D modeling, BimCraft for BIM review and editing, ModelCraft for 3D modeling, MarkupCraft for drawing review, TakeoffCraft for quantity takeoff, CivilCraft for civil and site design, DetailCraft for steel and rebar detailing, and PartCraft for parametric parts. The apps install together as CadCraft Studio for Windows, macOS and Linux, work offline on local files in open formats such as DWG, DXF and IFC, and can be driven by scripts and AI agents. Version 0.8 of every app is an early build: download CadCraft Studio at getcadcraft.com/download, or use each app in the browser at getcadcraft.com/use.

Quote it as written, or shorten it, as long as it stays accurate.

The logo, the app icons and the SuperCad Studio icon, for light and dark backgrounds, are on the press kit page. Please use the files as they are: don't stretch, recolor or redraw them.

Questions teachers ask

Is it really free?

Yes. The eight apps are free and open source for everyone, with every feature, and Community use includes commercial work. SuperCad Studio, the paid all-in-one app ($250 a seat for everyone else), is free for students for as long as they are in school.

Do students need an account?

Not to use the eight apps, in the browser or installed. A student needs a CadCraft account, with the same school email, only to download SuperCad Studio with a student license.

Is it finished software?

Not yet. Every app is an early build (version 0.8), and new versions come out often. Plan a lesson on what works today, and try it yourself first. We would rather hear from you than have a class lose an hour.

Can I get a classroom or lab license for SuperCad Studio?

Classroom licenses are being set up. For now each student applies for their own free license, and you can apply as a teacher for yours. Tell us about your course when you apply and we will work with you directly.

What happens when a student graduates?

The SuperCad Studio they installed keeps working. Only new versions stop, until they choose a graduate license ($75, with 2 years of upgrades). Their price path is locked in the day they join.

What do you ask of students, and what do you see?

An email address, a school and a graduation year. Once a year we email a one-click check that the student can still read their school email; after 45 days without an answer the license stops getting new versions. We don't watch what students make or how they use the apps. Files stay on their computers unless they send them somewhere.

Can my class work on one drawing together?

Yes, with Live TeamWork. Host the drawing from CadCraft Studio and students join on the school network with a short code, free, from Studio or a browser. Everyone sees every edit as it happens, and undo only undoes each person's own work. For a remote class, an invite link works from anywhere: only the host needs a Team Cloud Plan seat, students join free.

May I copy, print and post these materials?

Yes. Print the brochure, flyer and handout as often as you like, post them on your course page or your school's site, and paste the announcement into your learning system. Please don't change the logo; the files are on the press kit page.
