Tutorials CivilCraft help Troubleshooting and limits

Not built yet

What this build of CivilCraft does not do yet, and what to do instead today.

Written for CivilCraft 0.3. The same help is inside the app: press F1.

CivilCraft is early. This page lists what the current build does not do, so you do not look for it. Nothing here is promised for a date.

Points

Not built yetInstead, today
Editing or moving one point at a timeCut and paste the points, or edit the point file and import it again
Adding a second point file to the firstJoin the files in a text editor or spreadsheet first
Exporting a point text fileExport LandXML (points go out as CgPoints), use GIS Export (points with P, N, E, Z and D fields), or Copy the points into a spreadsheet
Description keys, custom point groups, point label stylesGroups come from the first word of the description; labels show the number, elevation and description, or less (CivilCraft settings)
Unit conversionConvert the file before importing; Units only relabels

Surfaces

Not built yetInstead, today
More than one surface built from pointsOne project per surface
Hide (inner) boundariesUse Longest outside edge or an outer boundary
Selecting or editing one drawn breakline⌘ZCtrl+Z, or Remove drawn breaklines and redraw
Editing a surface read from LandXML (breaklines, boundary)Rebuild the surface from the points
Editing a surface made from an elevation gridImport the grid again with other choices
Undoing a surface made from an elevation gridSave a copy of the project before you import
Converting a surface read from LandXML when the coordinate system changesRebuild the surface from the points first
Labeled spot elevations and slope valuesRead them in the status bar

Alignments and profiles

Not built yetInstead, today
Spirals (transition curves)Circular curves only; LandXML alignments with spirals are skipped
Inserting a PI between two othersRedraw the alignment, or retype PI coordinates
Alignments from objects, offsets, wideningsDraw by PIs
Typing K for a vertical curveType L (K is shown)
Circular and unsymmetrical vertical curvesSymmetric parabolic curves only
More than one design profile per alignmentOne alignment per variant
Zooming the profile view, profile bands, plotting profilesThe profile view fits the whole alignment; the profile goes out in LandXML
Cross-section views and sample linesUse the corridor facts and the status bar

Corridors

Not built yetInstead, today
Curb and gutter, sidewalks, ditches, other subassembliesOne lane, one shoulder and a side slope each side
Different left and right sides, or changes along the roadSplit the work into separate alignments
Superelevation and wideningNot available
Regions, targets, corridor surfaces of their ownThe corridor is graded into the proposed surface
Corridors exported as LandXML roadwaysThe proposed surface is exported

Grading and volumes

Not built yetInstead, today
Sloped pads, feature lines with grades, benchesFlat pads with cut and fill slopes
Grading to a distance, elevation or another surfaceDaylight to existing ground only
Adding or removing a pad cornerDelete the pad and draw it again
TIN-to-TIN (prism) volumes, choosing the grid cell sizeGrid method, cell size chosen for you
Swell and shrink, topsoil, pavement depthsApply factors to the reported numbers yourself
Mass haulNot available

Pipe networks

Not built yetInstead, today
More than one network per projectSeparate projects for storm and sanitary
Flow, hydraulics, hydraulic grade lineCheck hydraulics in other software
Parts catalogs, rectangular structures, non-round pipesRound structures and pipes with a diameter
Pipes in the profile view, curved pipesRead inverts and cover in the right panel

Files and output

Not built yetInstead, today
Opening DWG or DXFBring linework in as LandXML, or points as CSV
Multiple sheets, portrait sheets, title blocks, viewportsOne landscape plan sheet per PDF
Plotting elevation bands and profilesBands are screen only; take a screenshot if you need them
Changing layer names, colors or label stylesChange them in a CAD program after DXF export
Cloud saving, sharing, version historySave .civilcraft.json files and keep them backed up
Desktop builds for Mac, Windows and LinuxUse CivilCraft in the browser
Opening several point or project files at onceOne file per open (GIS files that belong together, such as a shapefile's parts, open together)

GIS and coordinate systems

Not built yetInstead, today
KML or KMZ, File GeodatabaseConvert to GeoPackage, shapefile or GeoJSON first
Editing GIS features or their attributesEdit them in a GIS program and import again
Labels from GIS attributes, GIS layers in the 3D viewClick a feature to read its attributes
Vertical datums and geoid modelsElevations are used as the file gives them; check the vertical datum yourself
Grid-file datum shifts (such as NADCON for NAD27)A rougher shift is used and its accuracy is shown; use a modern datum where you can
Map layers in the PDF plot, DXF, DWG or 3D viewMap layers are on screen only
Map servers that need a sign-in, key or tokenUse public services, or a georeferenced image file
Writing LAS or LAZ filesExport surfaces as a GeoTIFF elevation grid
LiDAR intensity, color and returns; elevation grids with several bands; grid or LiDAR files over 200 MBLiDAR is filtered by class only, grids use their first band; cut large files into tiles first

Input

Not built yetInstead, today
A finish button for touch screensAttach a keyboard and press ReturnEnter
Typed coordinates or distances while drawingDraw roughly, then type exact PI coordinates in the alignment's PI table
Typing coordinates for pad corners and structuresDrag their grips; zoom in for precision and watch E and N in the status bar
Snapping to objects (other than survey points for breaklines)Zoom in and watch the status bar
Changing keysThe keys are fixed

3D view

Not built yetInstead, today
Drawing or editing in the 3D viewDraw and edit in the plan; the 3D view follows every edit
Highlighting the selection in 3DThe selected item's properties open in the right panel
Selecting alignments, pads or breaklines by clicking in 3DClick them in the plan
Exporting the exaggerated view or in feetExports are true scale in meters; see Export the site in 3D
Textures, sun and shadows, fly-throughOrbit and the standard views
