TakeoffCraft is in development. This list is what the current build does not do, and how to get the job done anyway.
Measuring
| Not built yet | Instead, today |
|---|
| Deductions on linear runs | Draw the runs without the part you would deduct, or put the deduction in an assembly formula. |
| Typing coordinates or lengths while drawing | Click the points; use ⇧Shift for 45° steps and Check to verify. |
| Editing an arc's curve directly | Move its end points (the curve follows), or delete and redraw the run. |
| The Shift 45° snap on arc points | Place the arc's end point by eye, or snap the straight segments either side of it. |
| Inserting a point in the middle of a run or outline | Delete the mark and draw it again. |
| Box (window) selection | ⇧Shift + click each mark, or ⌘ACtrl+A for every mark on the sheet. See Copy, paste and duplicate marks. |
| Rotating, mirroring or rescaling a pasted copy | Paste on a sheet at the same scale and in the same orientation; draw the rest by hand. |
| More than one scale per sheet (detail areas, enlarged plans) | Measure the part at the sheet's scale, and take off the detail on its own enlarged sheet if the set has one. |
| Setting a scale on several sheets at once | Pick the preset on each sheet; it takes one click per sheet. |
| Reading the scale printed on the sheet | Pick the matching preset, then use Check. |
Items and pricing
| Not built yet | Instead, today |
|---|
| Items with more than one type (area and length together) | Use an area item's perimeter P, or a linear item with a height for wall area. |
| Assembly formulas worked out run by run | Formulas use the item's totals; use N for per-run extras. |
| Formulas that use another item's quantities | Repeat the measurement in that item, or work it out in the spreadsheet export. |
| An item library | Copy an item (Copy item under Items) in one takeoff and paste it in another, in another tab or after New. |
| Renaming the takeoff | The name comes from the first PDF; rename the downloaded files. |
| Naming sheets by hand | Sheets are named from the PDF's page labels; search by file name and page. |
Auto count
| Not built yet | Instead, today |
|---|
| Finding symbols across sheets drawn at different sizes | Search each group of same-scale sheets separately. |
| Finding symbols at angles other than 90° steps, or mirrored | Count those by hand. |
Files and sharing
| Not built yet | Instead, today |
|---|
| Saving the takeoff inside the PDF | Save the .takeoff.json and keep it with the PDFs. Marked PDF writes a copy with the takeoff drawn in, for viewing. |
| Moving a takeoff onto a revised PDF | Open the old and new PDFs side by side; take off the changes as new marks. See Save and reopen a takeoff. |
| A CSV of quantities by sheet or of the marks | Use XLSX: its By sheet and Marks worksheets have them. |
| Cloud saving | Not available yet. Save project files to your computer and back them up. |
| Auto-save or recovery after a crash | Save often with ⌘SCtrl+S. |
| Desktop builds | Not available yet. TakeoffCraft runs in the browser. |
| Not built yet | Instead, today |
|---|
| Pinch-to-zoom and two-finger gestures on the flat sheet on touch screens (the 3D view has them) | Use Fit page, Fit width, or a keyboard's ++ and −−. A mouse or trackpad works best. |
| A right-click menu | Use the toolbar, the panels and the keys. |
| Rotating the view | Pages rotated in the PDF already show upright. |
3D view
| Not built yet | Instead, today |
|---|
| Several sheets stacked in 3D (floors on top of each other) | Check one sheet at a time; the 3D view follows the sheet you show. |
| Drawing or editing marks in 3D | Go back to the sheet (33) to draw; select and delete work in 3D. |
| Walls with their own thickness, openings or a base height | Walls are drawn as thin strips from the floor up; take doors and windows off as their own items. |
| Exporting the 3D view as a model | Not available. Take a screenshot to share it. |
| Count posts sized like the counted object | Every post on a sheet is the same size; it marks where a count is, not what it is. |
Panels
| Not built yet | Instead, today |
|---|
| Moving the Quantities table | Only the Sheets and Items panels move. See Arrange the panels. |
| More than one panels window, or dragging a panel between the two windows | Use the panel's ⋯ menu to move it. |
| Resizing a floating panel by touch | Use the ⋯ menu to dock it, or resize it with a mouse. |
Spreadsheets
The XLSX workbook has been checked in LibreOffice Calc, which recalculated every total to the same cent as TakeoffCraft. It has not been opened in Excel yet. If a spreadsheet program shows something unexpected, the CSV export holds the same estimate as plain values.
