CadCraft Studio 0.8

Eight apps. Eight jobs done well.

Each part of a project deserves the right tool. Here is where each of the eight apps in CadCraft Studio belongs, what it hands on, and to whom.

Eight separate open-source apps in CadCraft Studio. Not SuperCad Studio, the separate all-in-one product.

Eight specialist tools, not eight copies of one tool.

The designer, drafter, estimator, reviewer and engineer do different work. Each app has a deliberate job.

The drafting desk

CadCraft

2D drafting & 3D modeling

2D drafting and 3D solids, layers, blocks, dimensioned drawings and layouts. The 0.8 roadmap adds P&ID and discipline drawing tools.

Best when geometry and drafting conventions must be exact.

Typical output
Working drawings, schematics, annotated plans and plot sets
Hands off to
  • BimCraft
  • DetailCraft
  • MarkupCraft
Formats
DWG, DXF, plotted PDF

The building model

BimCraft

BIM review & editing

IFC building models, sections, quantities, clash checks, properties and coordination between disciplines. The Great Eight adds engineering checks and workflows that use the model's data.

Best when the job is a building whose elements carry relationships and properties.

Typical output
Model views, schedules, IFC hand-offs and model review issues
Hands off to
  • ModelCraft
  • CivilCraft
  • TakeoffCraft
  • DetailCraft
Formats
IFC, quantities, schedules

The design room

ModelCraft

3D modeling for design

Fast direct 3D modeling: push and pull, groups, components, massing, and presenting early ideas.

Best when you are exploring shape before detailed design.

Typical output
Concept geometry, massing studies, design models and views
Hands off to
  • BimCraft
  • PartCraft
Formats
3D design models and views

The ground beneath it

CivilCraft

Civil & site design

Survey and terrain surfaces, alignments, profiles, corridors, grading and pipe networks. The Great Eight adds drainage, geotechnical and site engineering.

Best when coordinates, grades and infrastructure drive the job.

Typical output
Site plans, profiles, grading plans, earthwork quantities and LandXML exchange
Hands off to
  • BimCraft
  • CadCraft
  • TakeoffCraft
Formats
LandXML, site and utility plans

The quantity desk

TakeoffCraft

Quantity takeoff & estimating

Calibrated length, area and count takeoff from plans, with assemblies, pricing columns and quantity schedules you can export. Embodied carbon from model and takeoff quantities is built for 0.8.

Best when the question is how much, how many, or what it may cost.

Typical output
Takeoff worksheets, quantities, cost inputs and estimate schedules
Hands off to
  • BimCraft
  • CadCraft
  • CivilCraft
Formats
PDF, DWG, DXF, quantity exports

The review table

MarkupCraft

Drawing review & markup

PDF markups, revision compare, comments, punch lists and tracked corrections across drawing sets.

Best when several people need to agree on what changes.

Typical output
Reviewed plan sets, redlines, revision comparisons and issue records
Hands off to
  • CadCraft
  • BimCraft
  • CivilCraft
  • DetailCraft
Formats
PDF, markups, review records

The fabrication hand-off

DetailCraft

Steel & rebar detailing

Steel and rebar detailing, connections, schedules and shop drawings, with frame and calculation workflows beside the details.

Best when engineers and fabricators need exact connections and parts.

Typical output
Connection details, rebar schedules, shop drawings and NC files where supported
Hands off to
  • BimCraft
  • CadCraft
  • MarkupCraft
Formats
Shop drawings, schedules, NC

The product design desk

PartCraft

Parametric parts & assemblies

Constrained sketches, features, parametric parts, assemblies, joints, dimensioned drawings and GD&T. The Great Eight adds engineering calculations and manufacturing paths.

Best when the job is a manufactured object, a fixture or a mechanism.

Typical output
Part models, assemblies, STEP exchange and drawing packages
Hands off to
  • CadCraft
  • DetailCraft
  • TakeoffCraft
Formats
STEP, manufacturing drawings

A drawing becomes a project decision.

A drawing, a model and a review package passing through the people responsible for each, recorded as separate screens in separate apps.

From one desk to the next

Eight apps, not one window

What does your team need next?

A drawing set

Start in CadCraft for technical drawings or CivilCraft for site plans, then take the set to MarkupCraft for a review cycle.

A building with properties

Use BimCraft for IFC models, coordination, schedules and element data. ModelCraft helps with the early concept.

A fabricated component

Use PartCraft for a parametric part or assembly, and DetailCraft when the job is steel or rebar detailing.

A quantity or a budget

Use TakeoffCraft with plans or supported model quantities, and check the source, the units and the assemblies.

The software is free. Building it is not.

CadCraft is open source, and Community has every app and every feature, for personal work and paid client work alike. An owned license is a permanent commercial license in your name, from $1, and it pays for the people building the Great Eight and what comes after it. It adds no features: nothing is held back from Community.

The Team Cloud Plan is a separate service. It will add team seats, cloud saving and sync.
