CadCraft Studio 0.8

Powerful. Without the pretense.

What CadCraft Studio can do, what it does not promise, and where a licensed professional, a client standard or a checked hand-off stays essential.

Eight separate open-source apps in CadCraft Studio. Not SuperCad Studio, the separate all-in-one product.

What Studio can do.

The kind of work to expect from the eight apps together and from the Great Eight scope. Exact options depend on the app and the file.

  • Draft and plot

Precise 2D drawings, dimensions, layers, technical details, sheets, and DWG and DXF output.

  • Model places and things

Design models, IFC building data, terrain, corridors, 3D solids, parametric parts and assemblies.

  • Engineer selected systems

The 0.8 discipline work, such as drainage, piping, structural details, unit-aware calculations and field packs, where it is supported.

  • Review and coordinate

Compare drawing revisions, mark up PDFs, inspect model issues, record problems and send updates to the person responsible.

  • Measure and report

Takeoff quantities, schedules, calculation records, shop details and exported reports.

  • Work from local files

Use the apps with files on your own computer, offline too. Cloud saving and sync will come with the Team Cloud Plan, a separate service.

  • Use open formats

Exchange DWG, DXF, IFC, STEP, LandXML and PDF in the apps that support each one.

  • Connect automation

Scripts and the AI you connect can help with drafting, checks and repeat work, and you approve what they change.

Supported calculations in 0.8.

Engineering work built for this release. Each one shows its inputs, units and assumptions.

Every app

Calculation sheets

Live, unit-aware calculations saved with the file and worked again when an input changes.

BimCraft

Duct and pipe sizing

Ducts and pipes sized from flows, fixture units and pressure drop.

CivilCraft

Geotechnical checks

Boring logs, soil profiles, slope stability and settlement.

CivilCraft

Detention and routing

Detention ponds and hydrograph routing for a site's stormwater.

BimCraft

Model checks against IDS

Check an IFC model against the client's IDS file and list each element that does not meet it.

CivilCraft

Survey adjustment

Least-squares adjustment of survey networks and data collector files.

Process

Pumps and hydraulics

Pump, compressor and pipe network hydraulics for process systems.

BimCraft and TakeoffCraft

Embodied carbon

Embodied carbon worked out from model and takeoff quantities.

From nanometers to buildings.

The same apps draw a chip, a wiring harness and an office floor, render a room and run heat and airflow studies. Each picture is a real file opened in the app.

A dense multi-layer standard-cell chip layout opened from GDSII in CadCraft, with a 150 nm gate dimension

Nanometers

A chip layout, cell by cell

A real standard-cell layout opened from GDSII and measured in nanometers.

  • CadCraft
A 300 mm wafer map in CadCraft with whole and partial dies

Semiconductors

A 300 mm wafer map

Whole and partial dies counted on a wafer drawn by a script, checked against the dies-per-wafer sheet.

  • CadCraft
A PCB fabrication and assembly drawing in CadCraft with a drill table and layer stack

Electronics

A board fabrication drawing

Board outline, holes, a drill table counted from the drawing, the layer stack and notes. A drawing, not a board router.

  • CadCraft
A wire harness drawing in CadCraft with its from-to list beside the control schematic

Wiring

A wire harness from its schematic

Lengths, bundle sizes and a from-to list for every wire, made from the control schematic.

  • CadCraft
A control cabinet layout in CadCraft beside its six-pump power schematic

Electrical

A control cabinet on DIN rails

Breakers, contactors, a PLC and terminals laid out in the cabinet, beside the power schematic.

  • CadCraft
An office floor plan in CadCraft with outlets, cable trays and a panel schedule

Buildings

Power and data at every desk

Outlets at every desk, cable trays sized back to the comms room, and the panel schedule.

  • CadCraft
A furnished apartment cut open from above, rendered in BimCraft with warm pendant lights at dusk

Interiors

Furnish, finish and light a room

Rooms furnished with the furnish tool, materials painted on, seven pendant lamps, then rendered in the app.

  • BimCraft
A PartCraft thermal study on a finned heat sink, hottest over its two pads

Heat

See where the heat goes

A steady thermal study on a heat sink: two hot pads, fins cooled by air, the temperature in colour.

  • PartCraft
A PartCraft flow study around a model car with the speed field and wake in colour

Airflow

A virtual wind tunnel

A laminar flow study around a model car: the speed field on the centre plane and the wake behind it.

  • PartCraft

What Studio does not claim.

Trust is a feature. A firm needs to know where the software's job ends and professional responsibility begins.

  • Replace an engineer of record

The apps help with calculations and find issues. They cannot take on professional liability, certify code compliance, stamp plans or replace a required review.

  • Promise perfect round trips with every program

Exchange depends on the format, the objects and the version. A supported format does not mean every proprietary feature, custom object or old font comes back unchanged.

  • Make every field pack equally deep

A field pack may be a deep discipline workflow or a smaller set of templates and calculations. A named pack is not proof of a full simulation suite for that industry.

  • Merge eight apps into one window

CadCraft Studio is a launcher and host for eight apps. The one-window product is SuperCad Studio, sold separately.

  • Keep every file in sync on its own

Some 0.8 links are real, such as the tags a P&ID, its line list and the plant model share. Other hand-offs use supported files and need people to coordinate them.

  • Replace tests and specialist tools

Every simulation, analysis or calculation must be checked for its assumptions, boundary conditions, source data and limits.

  • Approve engineering an AI made

Scripts and the AI you connect can propose and make supported changes. They do not approve a design, and they should never make a safety-critical decision unseen.

  • Hold features back from Community

Community is free for paid client work too, with every app and every feature. An owned license funds development and puts a license in your name; it adds no features.

A format is a bridge, not a magic wand.

Pick the hand-off that keeps what the next team needs, then check what arrived: geometry, coordinates, units, classification and notes.

Questions firms ask before they adopt.

Do I have to use all eight apps?
No. A small drafting office might use two, a design-build firm six. Use the apps a job needs.
Can I use Community for client work?
Yes. Community is free for commercial work, with every app and every feature. An owned license is optional and pays for development.
Does Studio work with our existing software?
Through the formats it imports and exports. Test a representative project, and do not assume every feature of another program comes across unchanged.
Are the 0.8 engineering tools certified?
No software output is a certification. Check each method, the version of each standard, the verification evidence and your professional obligations.

The software is free. Building it is not.

CadCraft is open source, and Community has every app and every feature, for personal work and paid client work alike. An owned license is a permanent commercial license in your name, from $1, and it pays for the people building the Great Eight and what comes after it. It adds no features: nothing is held back from Community.

The Team Cloud Plan is a separate service. It will add team seats, cloud saving and sync.
