Tutorials CadCraft help Troubleshooting and limits
Not built yet
What this build of the CadCraft drafting app does not do yet, and what to do instead today.
Written for CadCraft 0.3. The same help is inside the app: press F1.
CadCraft is in development. This page lists what the current build does not do, so you do not hunt for it. Each item says what to do instead today.
Files and saving
| Not built yet | Instead, today |
|---|---|
| Sheets (layouts and their viewports) in a saved DWG | Save as DXF (⇧⌘SCtrl+Shift+S, then DXF R12). R12 keeps the first sheet with its viewports, and CadCraft's other sheets. |
| Saving a newer DWG version | The saved DWG is always the 2000 format, which later versions open. See What a DWG keeps and changes. |
| True colors in a saved DWG | The 2000 format has only the 255 standard colors, so true colors become the nearest standard one. |
| Saving a newer DXF version | The saved DXF is always R12. See what converts in Files: what opens, what saves. |
| Saving over the opened file | Every save downloads a new copy. Replace the old file yourself if you want to. |
| Cloud saving and sync between computers | Not available yet. Keep your DWG and DXF files in your own folders. |
| A desktop version | Not available yet. CadCraft runs in the browser. |
| Linked drawings (xrefs) and images | Ask for the drawing with them bound in. |
| Multileaders and wipeouts in opened files | Counted in "About this file", not shown. Use TEXT and lines. Tables in a DWG are shown as the other program drew them; tables in a DXF are counted, not shown. |
| Binary DXF | Save it as text (ASCII) DXF in the program that made it. |
| Copy and paste with other programs | CadCraft's clipboard works between CadCraft drawings and tabs in the same browser, not with other programs. Save as DWG or DXF and open it there. See Copy, paste and duplicate. |
| More than one drawing open at a time | Open the other drawing in a second browser tab. |
Drawing and editing
| Not built yet | Instead, today |
|---|---|
| Hatch and fill creation | Imported hatches show as a tone. To suggest a fill, draw lines, or add it in another program. |
| Linetypes (dashed, center, hidden lines) | Use a separate layer and color, and note it on the drawing. |
| Line weights per layer or object | One pen width per plot; choose it in the Plot to PDF dialog. |
STRETCH | Move vertices with grips, or use MOVE on the objects that should move. |
ARRAY | COPY with typed distances: @600,0 repeatedly places evenly spaced copies. |
JOIN and PEDIT | Draw the outline again with PLINE. |
MATCHPROP | Select the objects and set Layer and Colour in Properties. |
CHAMFER, BREAK, LENGTHEN | TRIM, EXTEND, grips and the Length field. |
| Fillet on polylines and arcs, and fillet options such as Multiple | EXPLODE the polyline, then fillet the lines. Press ReturnEnter to repeat FILLET. |
| Trim and extend with chosen edges, fence or crossing picks | Every visible object is an edge: pick pieces one at a time. Turn off layers you want ignored. |
| Paragraph text (a multi-line text editor), text styles and fonts | Single-line TEXT, one line per Enter, in the Helvetica-style font. |
| Leaders and multileaders | Draw a line or polyline and add TEXT. |
| Tables | Lines and text. |
| Defining new attributes, a block editor | Attributes of opened, inserted and library blocks can be edited in Properties. Redefine a block by making a block with the same name. |
| Layer rename, delete and layer states | Move objects to another layer; leave the empty layer. |
| Undo for layer settings | Change the setting back by hand. |
| Selection options such as Previous, Fence and Remove | Click, window, crossing, ⇧Shift+click, ALL, L. |
Precision aids
| Not built yet | Instead, today |
|---|---|
| Polar tracking and object snap tracking | Ortho, polar coordinates such as @1200<30, and direct distance. |
| Snap to grid | Type coordinates; the grid is a visual guide only. |
| Dynamic input (values typed at the crosshair) | The command line at the bottom. |
| Feet-and-inch input and display | Type decimals in drawing units: 150 for 12'-6" in an inch drawing. |
| Zoom previous, zoom by a factor | Extents, Window and the wheel. |
| Touch gestures (pinch zoom, two-finger pan) | Extents and Window. |
Sheets, dimensions and plotting
| Not built yet | Instead, today |
|---|---|
| Editing the model through a viewport | Edit on the Model tab; aim viewports with VPVIEW or Properties. |
| Twisted (rotated) viewports | Shown square to the sheet. |
| A title block that updates itself | Edit its texts by hand; the SCALE field does not follow viewport changes. |
| Named dimension styles | Settings for new dimensions plus each dimension's own sizes. See Set dimension sizes. |
| Ordinate dimensions, and editable two-line angular dimensions from opened files | They are shown as drawn in the file. |
| Annotative scaling | Set sizes for one plot scale with DIMSCALE and text heights. |
| Plot style tables, page setups, several sheets in one PDF | Plot each sheet to its own PDF. |
| Characters outside the Western European set in PDFs | They print as "?". |
Constraints and parameters
| Not built yet | Instead, today |
|---|---|
| Constraints on sheets, in blocks, on ellipses, splines or text | Constrain on the Model tab, on lines, polylines, circles, arcs and points. |
| Smooth (G2), and constraining a polyline's arc bulge directly | Tangent and equal; an arc segment follows its two ends. |
Reference (driven) dimensional constraints, and 3Point in DCANGULAR | A plain dimension (DIMLINEAR …) shows a value without driving it. |
| Dimensional constraints of a fixed size on paper, and plotting them | They show on screen only; add plain dimensions for the plot. |
| Constraints kept through MIRROR, EXPLODE and TRIM | Those make new objects: constrain them again (AUTOCONSTRAIN helps). |
| Design tables (configurations) in CadCraft | Change parameters in the panel. |
| A tested round trip with SolidWorks | Check the sketch the macro builds before you rely on it. |
3D
| Not built yet | Instead, today |
|---|---|
| Union, subtract and intersect (booleans) | Solids that overlap stay separate. Model the outline you want in 2D, then extrude it. |
| Fillets, chamfers, shells, sweeps, lofts and revolves | Extrude outlines with arcs, and push and pull faces. |
| Extrude along a path, with a taper, or in another direction than up | Draw the shape on the ground and extrude it up or down; rotate the solid afterwards. |
| Elevation and thickness of 2D objects | The drawing lies on the ground (height 0) on the 3D tab. |
| Solids, regions, bodies and meshes from other programs (3DSOLID, ACIS, polyface and polygon meshes) | Counted in "About this file", not shown. Ask for them as 3D faces in model space. |
| 3D faces inside blocks or on sheets from other programs | Only model-space 3D faces come into the 3D tab. The others are left out, and "About this file" says how many. |
| Copy and paste of solids | On the 3D tab, use COPY. The clipboard holds 2D objects only. |
| Window selection of 2D objects on the 3D tab | Click a shape, or select it on the Model tab first. |
| The 3D camera saved in the file | Choose a view again with Views after opening. |
| Sections, 2D views made from the solids, and solids on plotted sheets | Plot the 2D drawing; export GLB or STL to show the 3D model. |
| Materials, textures and lighting settings | The visual styles: shaded, edges, hidden line, wireframe, X-ray. |
| Snapping to the 2D drawing on the 3D tab | Snaps work on the solids; type coordinates for exact points on the drawing. |
