Menus, keys and mouse

Pick MarkupCraft's own toolbar or a PDF review menu bar, give any tool your own key, move tools between menus, and set what the wheel and the mouse buttons do.

Written for MarkupCraft 0.5. The same help is inside the app: press F1.

MarkupCraft's tools are the same whichever way you reach them. A menu style only decides where they sit on screen, what they are called there and which keys pick them. Choose one in Settings (⌘,Ctrl+,) › MarkupCraft › Menus, keys and mouse; the change is immediate, and this browser remembers it.

The two styles

StyleWhat you get
MarkupCraftMarkupCraft's own toolbar (File, Select, Draw, Revise, Annotate, Measure, Edit) and its one-letter keys: VV select, HH pan, PP pen, II highlighter, LL line, AA arrow, RR rectangle, EE ellipse, CC cloud, KK callout, TT text, NN note, SS stamp, MM length, QQ area, UU count. The start.
PDF reviewA menu bar (File, Edit, View, Document, Markup, Measure, Window) over a row of review tools, with keys set out the way PDF review programs set theirs: VV select, ⇧VShift+V pan, HH highlighter, QQ callout, NN polygon, ⇧NShift+N polyline, ⇧TShift+T note, ⇧AShift+A arc, and the measurements on ⌥⇧Alt+Shift: ⌥⇧KAlt+Shift+K calibrate, ⌥⇧LAlt+Shift+L length, ⌥⇧GAlt+Shift+G angle, ⌥⇧AAlt+Shift+A area, ⌥⇧CAlt+Shift+C count. ⌥LAlt+L opens the markups list. The middle button pans; a right click does not.

Both styles keep the ⌘Ctrl keys: ⌘ZCtrl+Z, ⌘YCtrl+Y, ⌘SCtrl+S, ⌘OCtrl+O, ⌘PCtrl+P, ⌘CCtrl+C, ⌘XCtrl+X, ⌘VCtrl+V, ⌘DCtrl+D, ⌘ACtrl+A, ⌘FCtrl+F, ⌘0Ctrl+0 fit page and ⌘9Ctrl+9 fit width; fn ↑Page Up and fn ↓Page Down change sheet.

Make it your own

  1. Pick the style closest to what you want, then click Customize….
  2. On Keys and menus, find a tool (the search box helps). Add a key and press the key, or two keys in a row for a two-letter key. Click a key to take it off.
  3. With the menu bar, Where it sits moves the tool to another menu, or to Keys only.
  4. On Mouse, set the wheel and the buttons that pan the sheet.
  5. Give it a name and click Save.

Saving a built-in style makes your own copy ("My PDF review"); the built-in one never changes. A key given to two tools is shown in red and has to be fixed before you can save.

Mouse

  • Mouse wheel: Scroll up zooms in (the start) or Scroll up zooms out, and how fast. A trackpad pinch always zooms the way your fingers move.
  • Pan the sheet with: the middle button, the right button, or both. SpaceSpace and drag, and the Pan tool, always pan; the left button otherwise draws and selects, so ticking it changes nothing here.
  • MarkupCraft has no 3D view, so the 3D buttons do nothing here.

Take it with you

Export saves the style in use as a small .ccinput.json file; Import… adds one, from another computer or a colleague. An imported file can only point at MarkupCraft's own tools: anything else in it is left out and counted in the status bar. Delete this style removes one of your own.
