Save views as scenes
Save a camera and style as a scene, update and rename it, and step or play through scenes to present a design.
Written for ModelCraft 0.3. The same help is inside the app: press F1.
A scene remembers a camera position and a style: where you are looking from, perspective or parallel, the face style, edges, and the sun settings. Scenes are saved in the .modelcraft file.
Add a scene
- Set up the view: orbit, zoom, pick a style, set the sun.
- In the Scenes panel on the right, click Add scene.
The scene appears in the list, named "Scene 1", "Scene 2" and so on, and as a tab across the top of the 3D view. The status bar says "Scene 1 saved: this camera and style."
Go to a scene
- Click its tab over the 3D view, or its name in the Scenes list.
- Or press fn ↓Page Down for the next scene and fn ↑Page Up for the previous one. Next and Previous under the list do the same.
The camera glides to the scene in a little over half a second. If your computer is set to reduce motion, it jumps there instead.
Change, rename or delete a scene
Each scene in the list has three small buttons after its name:
- Update (the circular arrows): saves the current camera and style into that scene. "Scene 2 updated."
- Rename (the pencil): opens a "Rename scene" dialog. Type the new name and click Save.
- Delete (the trash can): removes the scene. "Scene 2 deleted. Ctrl+Z brings it back."
Adding, updating, renaming and deleting scenes are steps in undo, like changes to the model.
Present
- Add two or more scenes.
- Click Play under the list. ModelCraft moves to the next scene every few seconds and goes back to the first after the last.
- Click Stop (the same button) or press EscEsc to stop.
For a sun study, add one scene per hour with only the Time changed, then play them. See Styles and sun shadows.
To present without the bars, press ⌃⇧FCtrl+Shift+F twice: full screen, then full screen with the bars hidden. The scene tabs stay over the view.
Things to know
- Changing the style or moving the camera after going to a scene does not change the scene until you click Update.
- Scenes do not hide or show parts of the model; there is no hiding in this build.
- Scenes are not exported to Collada, OBJ, glTF, STL or IFC.
