Working offline

Save an app for offline use, what works with no connection, and what needs one.

The apps do their work on your computer, so most of it works with no connection. The browser only needs to have the app's files saved first.

Save an app for offline use

  1. Open the app while you are online.
  2. Choose Save for offline in the bar at the top.
  3. Wait for "Offline ready". The app's files, its file readers and this help are now saved in your browser. Apps that read DWG or PDF files save their readers too, so this can take a minute the first time.

Do this once per app, in each browser you use. To go back to the app later with no connection, open the same address you used before, or a bookmark of it.

Offline

You are offline now. If this app was saved for offline use, everything below works. If it was not, you can still use what has already loaded in this tab, but don't reload it until you are online again.

What works offline

  • Opening files from your computer, drawing, editing, measuring and checking.
  • Saving and exporting: every save is a download to your computer.
  • This help, including search.

What needs a connection

  • Opening the app for the first time, and saving it for offline use.
  • Getting a newer version of the app. When you are online, the app picks up the newest version the next time it opens, and Save for offline refreshes the saved copy.
  • Links to the website, such as Open on the website and links to other pages.
  • Cloud saving and sync between computers, which are not available yet.

Things to know

  • A saved copy belongs to one browser on one computer. Clearing your browser's site data removes it.
  • Private windows in some browsers, and some locked-down work computers, do not allow offline saving. The button tells you when it cannot save.

Safari

Safari removes saved site data from sites you have not visited for several weeks. Open the app now and then while online, or save it again before a trip.

  • Desktop builds, which will not need a browser, are not available yet.
