Tutorials MarkupCraft help Walkthroughs
Set your author name
Give the name that goes on every markup, reply and stamp, and know where it is kept.
Written for MarkupCraft 0.3. The same help is inside the app: press F1.
Every markup records who made it and when. Stamps print the name ("By Ana Ruiz, Oct 10, 2026"), replies show it, the markups list can filter by it, and other PDF viewers show it as the comment's author.
The first time
The first time you pick a drawing tool, a box called "Your name on markups" opens.
- Type your name the way you want reviewers to see it (up to 80 characters).
- Choose Save.
Result: your name appears at the right end of the status bar, and every new markup carries it.
If you choose Not now, markups are made with no author ("Not recorded" in Properties) and stamps show only the date. MarkupCraft asks again the next time you open it.
Change it
- Click your name (or "Set your name") at the right end of the status bar.
- Type the new name and choose Save.
Or open Settings (⌘,Ctrl+,), stay on the MarkupCraft tab and type it under Your name. See MarkupCraft settings.
Only markups you make from now on get the new name. Markups already drawn keep the name they were made with; there is no way to change the author of an existing markup.
Where the name is kept
Your name is stored in this browser, on this computer (the browser's local storage for this website). That means:
- Another browser on the same computer, or the same browser on another computer, asks again.
- A private or incognito window asks every time, and forgets when it closes.
- Clearing this site's data (cookies and site data) in the browser's settings forgets it.
- Nothing is sent anywhere. The name only leaves this computer inside the PDFs you save.
Safari
Safari may clear a website's stored data if you have not visited it for a while. If MarkupCraft asks for your name again, that is why.
If several people share one computer and one browser login, each should check the name in the status bar before starting, since it is shared.
