Kitchens, baths and furniture from the residential set

Place cabinets, vanities, appliances, plumbing fixtures and furniture from the library against the walls, then put countertops on the base cabinets that follow them.

Written for BimCraft 0.5. The same help is inside the app: press F1.

What you'll do

Lay out kitchens, bathrooms and rooms with the residential set: cabinets, vanities, appliances, plumbing fixtures and furniture drawn by CadCraft and free to use (CC0). They come from the library and line up with the walls; countertops then go on the base cabinets in one click.

Place cabinets and fixtures

  1. Open the Library tab and choose a category: Casework (base, wall and tall cabinets, vanities), Appliances, Plumbing, Furniture. Searching for base cabinet, B24, W3030 or toilet finds them too.
  2. Pick an item and choose Place. Pick the level.
  3. Point near a wall and press TabTab to snap to it: the item's back goes on the wall face. Press RR to turn it.
  4. Click to place it. Place the next one right beside it; a run of cabinets is just cabinets side by side.

Wall cabinets, the microwave over the range, range hoods and kitchen sinks carry their own height: place them at the floor like everything else and they hang (or sit) where they belong — wall cabinets 54" up, a sink at a 36" counter. The corner cabinets go in an inside corner with their back on one wall and their side on the other.

Countertops

  1. On the level, open Build and choose Countertop. Set the Front overhang and the Thickness if they aren't 1" and 1½".
  2. Point at a run of base cabinets: the countertop it would make shows over all the cabinets that touch, around corners too.
  3. Click.

The countertop is made from the cabinets under it. When you add or remove a cabinet, the countertop is drawn dashed on the plan until it fits again: click the run with Countertop, or pick the countertop and choose Fit to the cabinets in Properties. Any change to the walls on that level fits countertops by itself.

Doors and windows

The Door and Window tools have residential types too: Bifold closet door, French doors, Barn door (on the wall), Entry door with sidelites, Awning, Picture window and Transom (see Doors and windows).

Good to know

  • Countertops are saved as furniture ("Countertop") with their area, perimeter and front edge, ready for a takeoff.
  • Sink cut-outs in countertops and backsplashes are not made yet.
  • The sizes are common nominal sizes, not any maker's product; check a real product's sizes before ordering.
