Elevations, sections and sheets

Draw section lines on the plan, then open Sheets for a print-ready set made from the model: plans of each level, the four elevations, building sections, schedules and wall framing, with title blocks and scales, as one PDF.

Written for BimCraft 0.5. The same help is inside the app: press F1.

What you'll do

Make a drawing set from the model: the plan of each level, the north, east, south and west elevations, a building section for every section line, the door, window, room and lumber schedules, and an elevation of each framed wall. The set is drawn again from the model each time you open it, so it always matches what you built.

Draw a section line

  1. On a level, open Build and choose Section line.
  2. Click where the line starts and where it ends. The short line at its middle shows the side the section looks toward: the left of the line, going from the first click to the second.
  3. The line shows on the plan with its heads and its letter (A, then B, and so on).

Pick the line to change it in Properties: its letter, Flip the view to look the other way, and Look as far as to stop the view a set distance behind the cut (0 shows everything behind it). Press fn DeleteDelete to remove it.

Open the sheets

  1. Click Sheets in the model bar (beside Print).
  2. The sheets are listed on the left: A-101 and on for plans, A-201 for elevations, A-301 for sections, A-401 for schedules and S-101 for wall framing. Click one to see it.
  3. Choose the Paper: Letter, 11 × 17, 24 × 36, A3 or A1.
  4. Click Download the set as PDF: one page per sheet.

What is on the sheets

  • Plans show walls, doors, windows, rooms with their areas, dimensions and section lines, at the largest standard scale that fits: 1/4" = 1'-0" or smaller (1:50 or smaller in millimetres).
  • Elevations are drawn from the 3D model with hidden lines removed, two to a sheet, all at the same scale, with a ground line under them. The roof, the foundations and the ground show as they are modeled.
  • Sections fill what the cut passes through (walls, floors, the roof) and draw what is seen beyond it.
  • Schedules are the same tables as Schedules in the model bar.
  • Framing shows each framed wall's studs, plates, headers and sills as seen from its outside, so a crew can lay it out. See Framing walls, floors and roofs.

Each sheet has a title block with its number, its title, the file's name and the date.
